About our Community

Knights of Columbus acknowledge they are members of the Community in which they live and as such have an obligation to improve that community. Council #7909 if very involved in the Community of Olathe, Kansas. As members of this growing community, we are constantly looking for ways to make it a better place for all human beings to live. Our dedication to Community is by no means a focus on the Roman Catholic community of Prince of Peace. We find ways to make the community better for all those who live and work in the area. The Knights of Columbus has focuses on many areas of community development and finding ways to seek out those in our community in the most need. We support local charities and food drives, we strive to give food and clothing to those in need, we attempt to share of beliefs that all human life is a gift from God by supporting Special Olympics and area programs for those Mentally or Physically Challenged. We look for ways to support our freedom through the political process and strive to keep all citizens franchised in our government.

The Knights of Columbus as a whole has many different programs to support all communities, but in our council we focus on three main areas directly. We support local Catholic Charities through parish food drives and financial support. We support our local Trailblazers, and we work to keep our community clean. Through our State we support Special Olympics with financial contributions, many of which we raise though various fund raising activities, and we look for new ways to make our city, state, country and world a better place for all to live. We are constantly looking for new ways to make a positive impact on those around us.

Mur-Len Road Cleanup

Every quarter, there will be a community cleanup. Typically, this takes place on a Saturday morning. Everyone meets in the parking lot at Prince of Peace, and from there we proceed to Murlen, where participants walk from the corner of Mur-Len and 143rd to Mur-Len and 151st, picking up trash along the way. Let's keep our communnity clean!

Tootsie Roll Sales

Every Autumn, the annual Tootsie Roll Drive takes place over the course of a weekend. Our council will need volunteers to collect donations at different public sites in Olathe, as well as after each Mass that weekend, to collect funds which our council then donates to the Olathe Trailblazers. That organization, in their own words, provides " year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities." They're a great organization with a worthy cause, and I urge all members of our council to get involved with this fundraising campaign each Autumn.
